Mesa County, Colo. —  As of September 2018, United Way of Mesa County’s fundraising is off to an encouraging start. “Pacesetters” at more than thirty companies have kicked off this year’s fundraising efforts by raising an estimated total of $405,834 for the 2018-19 fundraising drive! Pacesetter consistently raise about 40% of the total campaign.

Most of United Way’s fundraising occurs in workplaces around Mesa County. Employees at 31 local Pacesetter businesses and organizations give back to the community through United Way. The Pacesetters get a head start fundraising in August. At the Community Kickoff, sponsored by FCI Constructors, United Way announced the amount Pacesetter employees pledge to donate in 2019. By raising hundreds of thousands of dollars, they challenge the rest of the community to donate.

“We are very optimistic about this year’s campaign. I’m not surprised but very encouraged at how our community seems to always rise to the occasion when it is needed the most,” United Way Board President Greg Coren said.

United Way of Mesa County fights for the health, education and self-reliance of everyone in Mesa County. Health means people are connected to regular, quality health services. Education means all children enter kindergarten ready to learn and more students will be reading at grade level by 4th grade. Self-reliance means basic needs are met so people can remain independent. United Way believes if these three goals are achieved, people have a better chance for success and our community will be stronger and more viable. This year, United Way aims to raise $1,000,000 towards these efforts.

From now until mid-November, workplaces around our community are encouraged to help raise money for United Way and collaboratively invest in our community. Starting a workplace campaign is easy and rewarding. Whether you’re a small business or a major corporation, you can join the efforts of about 100 local organizations that run workplace campaigns every year. Workplace campaigns make it possible to give any amount of money directly through your paycheck, making it easier to give.

United Way is currently funding 43 local programs, offering free technical assistance to those programs and is working with several community groups to make strides in health, education and self-reliance.

    We thank our 2018-19 Pacesetters!
