DONATE - PLANNED GIVING

What is “Planned Giving”?

Planned Giving is a donor service that enables donors to give gifts of assets. It provides enhanced tax benefits – donors choose the timing of the gift (now or later) and some planned gifts return an income to the donor. It’s another way to support the United Way mission.

Policy Regarding Bequests and Asset Gifts

United Way of Mesa County, Inc. (United Way of Mesa County), through its Board of Directors, adopts the following policy regarding bequests and other types of gifts not associated with annual campaigns.

United Way of Mesa County will accept, and does encourage, unrestricted bequests and other non-campaign gifts to United Way of Mesa County. United Way of Mesa County will place unrestricted bequests and non-campaign gifts (for example, gifts in memory of or honoring a person or persons) in an endowment fund maintained on behalf of United Way of Mesa County by the Western Colorado Community Foundation. The current vision of United Way of Mesa County is to grow an endowment to ultimately use income from the endowment to fund United Way of Mesa County grants, operations and community impact projects. Bequests and non-campaign gifts with specific directions or designations may be accepted if United Way of Mesa County can fulfill the directions and/or designations, and such directions and designations are consistent with the mission of United Way of Mesa County. The Board of Directors will address directed or designated gifts on a case by case basis to determine whether a specific bequest or gift is in keeping with this policy.

Bequests and gifts that are not cash or cash equivalents, including real estate, closely-held stock, tangible personal property, partnership interests and other property interests, may be accepted by United Way of Mesa County, but must be reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors on a case by case basis. Such approval may include disposition of the property as determined by the Board of Directors in its discretion.

No bequest or gift that is subject to any restrictions, covenants, conditions or prearrangements will be accepted by the Board of Directors unless full disclosure of such restrictions, covenants, conditions and prearrangements have been made to the Board of Directors.
